On the eve of the eve of the Club Championships and a potential history making 4 in a row it's worth taking a look at how far we've come as a club.
In 2006, the year the club founded, the KMGC took part in our first Club Championships - in Dorridge - with the line-up of Sean Homer, Marion Homer, Andy Booth and Philip Peacock.
2007 saw the CC's take place at the sadly now departed Clambers where we saw our first 2 team entry (accounting for unbelievably 50% of the entries alongside Hastings and Tunbridge aka the Exalls). Alongside myself, Marion and Andy we saw 5 new caps awarded with Rich Hopkins, Bill Bullin, Sally Booth, Jake Booth and Jane Booth joining the growing ranks of club players.
2008 saw the Club Championship move to Stratford and two more caps awarded with Dave Forrest and Sue Forrest lining up with Marion and myself.
2009 took us to the South West and the Sandbanks course where another two new caps were awarded - to none other than our VC Scott Lancley and Rocky Bullin (along with the debut of our Black KMGC classic top at a CC).
Then we come to the 2010 event, held at the now departed Green course where the KMGC once again had 2 teams competing and a whopping 5 new KMGC CC debuts - Michael Smith, Marc Chapman, Andy Exall, Adam Kelly and Tony Kelly. And the KMGC took our first title in fine style (with the debut as well of the Orange KMGC top!).
2011 saw us back at Dorridge, a fitting venue to take our second title as it saw the birth of the KMGC club team - and for the first time, there we no new players taking part, but 2 settled and quality teams, identical line-ups to the 2010 championship
2012 saw us go to Basingstoke with Will Donnelly, Dave Donnelly, Phil Exall and Alex (as he was) Pragnell making their debuts as we broke more records with 3 teams taking part and taking our third title on the bounce.
Which brings us to 2013 and our return to Basingstoke this weekend.
Five more players will be getting their team debuts - step forward Mark Wood, Chris Wood, Martin Greenhead, Brian Smith and Matty Exall - and the KMGC are going in force with 4 teams, pushing for the historic 4th title in a row.
28 players.
3 titles.
1 incredible club!
Here's to a successful and enjoyable weekend.
