MEGABOWL V - Saturday August 11th - STROKES

Morning all,

Had a chat with Matt a couple of weeks ago and subsequently have 2 dates primed for this years MEGABOWL (the 5th running of this epic event).

Either

SATURDAY 4th AUGUST

or

SATURDAY 11th AUGUST

Usual format (mirror Day 1 of the British Open), rolling start, etc.

Realistic tee-off from 10.30am we should be able to get onsite from 9 while they clear the course etc but will confirm all the details nearer the time.

Saturdays tend to be slower to start from a public POV so makes sense to go for this rather than a Sunday.

Let me know which dates work for you and we will confirm the final date in the next couple of weeks

Should be ok for either so looking forward to playing there again!
It's gonna be tough for the reigning champ to hold onto the Megabowl again. (whoever it is!)

I would prefer that it is on the 4th August and that would be the best thing that I could do on my birthday!!

Also we have to go to the olympics on the 11th of August and then we are going straight to our holiday from there which is near Wroxham barns so we will hopefully play there a couple of times!!

Not my choice! If I could choose then I would just not have the olympics in this country!

Yes it's that time of the year again as we build up to the annual KMGC summer bash:

THE MEGABOWL

For the 5th anniversary of the event we are going back to the original venue of the first ever MEGABOWL, Strokes Adventure Golf Course in Margate and you are all invited to join in the fun!

Taking place on Saturday 11th August, and replicating Day one of the British Open (4 rounds of Strokeplay) it promises to be another great event for the KMGC and friends.

We are anticipating a 10.30am start - will confirm more details later in the week (such as when we can get on site for practice on the Saturday morning) but suffice to say you are all welcome to come and play in what is always a great day of minigolf (and usually sun!!). The cost is £10 per person (the standared Strokes day rate for 2012) and the winner will take home the now legendary Megabowl trophy (yours to keep for a year) as won by Andy Exall in 2008 & 2009, John McIver in 2010 and myself in 2011!

Let me know if you can make it and hopefully we'll see you all on the 11th.

with several more to follow - looks like we are in for a big field again for the MB!

A few updates:

1) We will be able to get on site at Strokes from 9am on Saturday - the course doesn't open until 10am so there will be various cleaning/prep work going on so please bear this in mind when practicing first thing (i.e. don't get in the way!!)

2) We will be able to use the party room to drop off all our gear and base ourselves for the duration of MB5 - we will also have the laptop running with bangolf so we can keep ourselves out of the way - works for us and the course.

3) We are looking at a 10.30 start but if we are all around by 10, might tee-off earlier - rolling starts as is the norm.

4) The course will be open so it is vital that we don't get in the way of the regular punters. We are all well versed with the etiquette by now so bear this in mind on the day (i.e. don't get in the way!!)

5) Let me know if you are planning on playing but aren't on the list above - just helps get things prepared in advance of the big tee-off on Saturday

6) We are having a few transport issues at Homer Towers - is anyone likely to be passing our way on Saturday morning with a space for 2 players and a laptop (but no poles!!!). Might be OK but thought it prudent to ask anyway.

Thanks to Sean & Marion as always for splendid organisation & Matt, Brian & Frankie for the use of the UK's finest minigolf course - a super test of skill that most of us failed today!
Nice to see I wasn't alone in struggling to get below par, I think it'll change come the Bo but at least I had the lowest difference, HIOK is gaining ground rapidly on all who've been there for a few years & will be a good bet for top GB in Sept, among many others!

I'd echo everything Andy and Sean have said about the organisation of the tournament and the hospitality of the Woods. It was great to be back at Strokes. It was a fantastic day that everything that is so good about the KMGC.
Congratulations to Adam on a brilliant victory. September 22nd to 23rd is going to be a very special weekend.
