BMGA 2010 Season Only Rankings (SOR)

Assuming that he enters the last few events of the season, I'd like to offer my wholehearted congratulations to Michael Smith in coming top of the 2010 Season ranking list in his debut season. The consistant standard of play after his first event has set new levels of excellence on the BMGA tour, and the scary thing is he's only just learning the courses! A new era of dominance is around the corner after the decline of Tim 'Aceman' Davies. It will only be a matter of time before Michael breaks his duck and wins a big open and of course a major championship. Even if he doesn't acheive this next year, I'm positive that if he has another season like 2010 he will be the clear, undisputed British No.1 for many years to come. We can only hope that he stays a part of the KMGC in future so that he can assist us all in improving our games and hopefully a few of us can ride off the back of his successes (G-Mac/Rory Mac style!).
On a more general note, we now have some proven top 8 players amongst our ranks with Andy, Sean and myself, and a few more that are waiting in the wings with Adam, Scott and Tony. Our strength and depth is unrivalled in the UK, and other clubs can only dream of having what we have at the moment.
See you all on Saturday and Sunday where, with you're help, I could take a big step in finishing the year in the British Order of Merit No.1 spot setting up the Club champs for the conclusion of the race! We're due some rain too...

The Force

You want rain? You got it Force!

It's certainly an incredible effort to have 5 players in the top ten. And I have no doubt that Scott will continue his good form and overhaul Paul to make it 6. And we know Mr X would be in there if he had played in a couple more events. But we don't need the rankings to know how good he is. Our strength in depth is incredible. I don't think we have had the trophies this year to reward our good play (though there is still time). The exciting thing is, you look at the improvement that we've all made this year, and if everyone stays focused and motivated, it is going to get even better next year.

I do feel a bit guilty that you guys have not received the recognition you all deserve. Scott, Tony and Adam have come on incredibly well, Sean has had his best year ever and Marc has also been extremely consistent. To be in the top three of the rankings in the first 2 years of playing is sensational. And still with a great chance to get that top spot.

We all know how it is in modern times. Everybody is looking for a new story. Last year it was Marc. This year it was me. Next year it will be somebody else. But everyone at KMGC has been awesome this year. And if we are good enough on the day to win the club championship at the end of the month, then I hope you will all get the credit you deserve.

I cannot thank Marc enough for his words. That means so much, particularly coming from such a great player as you. That is incredibly kind of you. Though of course I am not taking anything for granted. A lot can happen in the last 2 strokeplay events.

As for a new era of dominance, I would personally say that is unlikely as the standard of play and the depth of the tour is so strong now with what I call at least 6 top players and another 6-7 below them who could make the step up. And Tim Davies is like Manchester United - at their most dangerous when being written off! From my point of view, I am just trying to learn from every single event I play. I'm really proud of what I have achieved so far this season but when I analyse my game I see an awful lot to improve on. I have a huge amount to learn but that will come with experience I hope.

This post is getting ridiculously long now but I would like to thank all of you for being such amazing teammates, though to be honest I think of you all as friends now. I could not have improved so much on my own or with another club. The only way I'll leave KMGC is if you kick me out! It's so easy to enjoy minigolf playing with you - you are 7 of the nicest people on the planet.

And I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we will do anything we can to help Marc finish the year as number 1. We're all behind you.
