After running the Worthing 20 last week in a respectable time (2hrs 42) I was on course for my planned sub 4 in London, until I awoke on Weds in some pain with a swollen right knee, five days later it's no better so a trip to the GP has confirmed what I thought. I am out of the London Marathon - I have a course of serious anti inflammatories for a month, then physio & if still necessary a keyhole surgery clean up. I have Osteochondritis Dissecans she said, basically my knee is a mess under the patella, when I go up or down stairs the noise is quite horrible, effin sore too. Good luck Tony, I hope you do well. I have deferred my place for another year, hopefully it'll be ok then. I will be doing the 22 mile water station instead, I'd rather be on the other side of the railings.  Sad
See you at Bluewater guys!

Cheers Scott, disappointed but things could be worse. Happy I got a 20 mile race in though.

Sorry to hear this Andy - must be a real kick in the teeth given the work you've put in but at least it's good to read that you can reclaim a spot next year all being well.

See you at Easter.

VAE!!

So sorry to hear this Andy. It must be such a bummer after all the hard work of training over the winter months. I really hope you are able to take up your deferred place next year.

Sorry we won't be able to race each other on 13 April as I was looking forward to a bit of inter-KMGC rivalry, though after your time in Worthing I wouldn't have got near you. I am planning on doing the Oakley 20 near Bedford on Sunday and anything around 3 hours will be fine for me.

I'll try to give you a wave at the 22-mile water station or more likely hold out my hand for a bottle.

This is a good opportunity to remind people about my Just Giving page at http://www.justgiving.com/tonykellylondonmarathon - almost £1250 raised so far and all contributions welcome!

Hope the knee is feeling better soon Andy.

Thanks all & Tony enjoy the 20, I was aiming for sub 3 at Worthing too & just felt ok all the way, my 20th mile was my fastest which I was especially pleased about as I thought I'd be hanging on by then, you may well surprise yourself. I'll be there in London looking for you!  cheers

Come back stronger next year, Andy. It just wasn't to be this time.
