Latest details released on BMGA website...
After 3 years in the UK, the fourth running of the World Adventure Golf Masters (WAGM) event will be taking place at the Gullbergsbro BGK course in Gothenburg, Sweden over the weekend of the 17 and 18 May. This eagerly anticipated event, part of the World Minigolf Sport Federation international calendar, will see the reigning team champions Germany battle it out against the 3 time runners-up Great Britain and the host nation Sweden for the coveted World Adventure Golf Team Masters title.
The event runs across the Saturday & Sunday 17/18 May with official practice on the Thursday & Friday, with the overall format expected to mirror that of the 2013 event, held at the Pirate Course in Hastings.
The first Great Britain team for the event has already been confirmed and once again features the top ranked players in the BMGA order of merit– Michael Smith, Adam Kelly, Sean Homer and James Rutherford. All four players have a wealth of international experience and caps between them and the team is ready to take on all comers from the strong national teams expect to play in the competition.
GBR 2014 WAGM team: James Rutherford, Sean Homer, Michael Smith and Adam Kelly with the Mayor of Hastings at the 2013 event
Sean Homer, GBR team member and Chairman of the BMGA said “It’s great news for the development of the WAGM that this year sees it being hosted in Sweden. With the defending champions Germany and Sweden both entering teams we will have to be at our very best to beat both these two quality international teams. We certainly have the players and the experience to finally take the Team Masters title. The course is a departure from the usual courses we play in the UK so it promises to be a great challenge for all of us that take part. With the new location and style of course, this years WAGM provides a great opportunity for our players to once again experience being part of a unique international event overseas."
The organiser Gullbergsbro BGK have managed to reserve rooms at the Apple Hotel which is situated about three km from the courses at a limited special rate. The cost of a double room will be SEK 1100 (breakfast, evening meal, parking and internet access included). You can find details of the hotel at www.applehotel.se/english - There is a tram service between the hotel and the courses (Travelling time is about 13 minutes).
Rooms have to be reserved before the 26th of February to take advantage of the offer and the BMGA will manage the arrangements for the accommodation at the Hotel on behalf of the official squad players. If you wish to be considered to be part of the Great Britain 2014 WAGM squad or have any questions regarding the event then please contact Sean at chairman@minigolf.org.uk by Thursday 19 February at the latest. Great Britain has a limited number of places available initially in each category at the WAGM (general class, seniors, etc) and on Friday 20 February the BMGA will be able to confirm the squad and communicate the relevant details to the selected players.
Please note: All official GBR squad players will need to arrive in Gothenburg on Wednesday 14 to ensure they can take full advantage of the practice days. All players who are not staying over on the Sunday evening will need to book as late a possible flight on the Sunday evening (the closing ceremony is scheduled for 6.30pm on the Sunday evening). Players can of course look at alternate accommodation arrangements if they want to play in the WAGM but whatever the details, all entries have to come through the BMGA as the official governing body for the UK.
