Most of you will be aware that I am running a marathon in April in order to raise money to fund my trip to South Africa in July. I am going to South Africa in order to be part of a team setting up a Sports Leadership team in a secondary school near to Pretoria. Thankyou very much to those who have already agreed to sponsor me. If you haven't sponsored me, I would be really grateful if you either replied to this topic or sent me a private message. Here is the paragraph that is written on the hard copy of my sposor form.....

I am taking part in a school trip to South Africa in which I will be part of a team that trains students in Boepathutse school to become Sports Leaders. We hope to set up a working Sports Leadership scheme at the school which will benefit students for many years. In order to raise money to be able to go on the trip, I intend to run a marathon in April. I have never run a distance of over six miles before and this combined with the fact that I am going to run the marathon with only 12 weeks of training compared to the recommended time of 24 weeks makes this a very tough challenge. I will greatly appreciate any sponsorship.
Adam Kelly

Thankyou guys Very Happy

Those kind folk at Homer Towers will stump up £20 (I don't think we've already sponsored you and if not, apologies for not supporting your gallant efforts sooner!). Good luck with your training and for the big event itself!!!!

I've just seen Peter Jones's comment on the BMGA forum. What a twat.
I'd love to see him shuffling round 26.2 miles, it'd take him two weeks. clown

pale I have just completed my marathon bounce bounce

I completely understand everything I have heard about "the wall" now. When I started feeling some pretty nasty aches after about 17 miles I was foolish enough to think that I had already hit it and what was all the fuss about?? Oh no, it really started to torture me after about 23 miles Sad

So my overall time for each of the 4 quarter marathon circuits:

1- 56 minutes
2- 58 minutes
3- 62 minutes
4- 76 minutes lol!

Total of 4 hours 12 minutes.

Not quite the 4 hours I was wishing for but nonetheless I knew that realistically 4 and a half was a tough enough target. I am absolutely delighted to have done it and to be honest it still hasn't really hit home that its done now.

So now just the matter of taking your money Laughing I will be hobbling round Hither Green on Thursday, hopefully will be at my first ever Eggstravaganza soon, possibly at day 2 of the WAGM and then the English Open so I'm sure I'll see you all soon. If everyone who sponsored me could bring the money the next time they expect to see me that'd be great. Very Happy

Thankyou so much for the sponsorship and support.

Hope to see everyone soon Very Happy

I think Adam would disagree Michael, and so will you young man!
Great effort Adam, 26.2 is really a ridiculous distance to run & although my 1st marathon was slightly quicker (3.56) I had a million people cheering me on, which definitely helps. Just to finish is a brilliant achievement & your 2nd marathon time will reflect the experience gained. (if you do another!) It's tough but the sense of achievement is like nothing else I've ever done.
How on earth Stormin' Norman did 2.30 is beyond me! affraid
I'll see you at Easter with my tenner, not sure when you'll get your money off Peter Jones though! lol!

Well done Adam.
For anyone to do that time for a first marathon is a great achievement but for a 15 year old to go against medical advice, with less than 4 months training whilst studying hard for GCSEs, becoming a great saxophone player and playing a fantastic standard of minigolf is just mind boggling!
An incredible effort.
lol!

Being at the London Marathon at the weekend inspired me yet again, I've not done one since 1994 & was rejected for the 5th time again this year. (1991,2,3 -2010,11)

So, the ballot for places opens on 26th April, who else is gonna have a go? Very Happy
I did say that it was never again but there's one left in these old pegs!

I've long forgotten how much it hurts but well remember the atmosphere, it's even better now & the organisation is absolutely astonishing. I take it FB & DT are advisers to the LM organising committee?

I will probably enter the ballot for the 2014 London Marathon, but I can't in the meantime as it is "unsafe" Rolling Eyes

Nah...they must be the former employees that got the chop after their numerous BMGA/KMGC mistakes over the years...they must have learnt their lesson well!

That rule of course is cobblers but I suppose they have top draw the line somewhere, I'd enter 2012 & give an 'adjusted' age AK, they make no checks at all.
It really is the best sporting event in the world. (except of course the Kent Open)

So as some as you know, I’m running in the Rotary Shakespeare Marathon this Sunday. I’d like to thank everyone who has agreed to sponsor me so far and appeal to all the kind-hearted KMGC and Green members on this forum to see if anyone else would like to sponsor me.

As well as raising money so that I can go to the Nations Cup and World Championships and help the British Minigolf team to ‘kick some European butt’, at least 20% and hopefully more depending on how much I raise will go to the Cancer Research charity.

At least 1 in 3 people will get cancer at some point in their lives and more than 1 out of 4 deaths around the world are from cancer. By sponsoring me on Sunday, you will be contributing to Cancer Research’s continued fight against Cancer.

Any sponsorship would be hugely appreciated.

Apparently Stratford UA may experience heavy rain and/or hail on Sunday according to early 5 day weather forecasts. But on the positive side, that’s a lot better than the warm temperatures of a couple of weeks ago.

Thank you for the good luck messages.

7 hours of minigolf, a 3.5 hour journey back, not getting in until 1AM, a Mcdonalds evening meal and just five hours sleep are probably not ideal preparations on the day before a marathon.

But the run went well. Conditions were good and I really enjoyed the first half of the marathon then it got much harder. The final 7 miles were horrible. But it’s done now. I finished in 3 hours, 42 minutes and 4 seconds.

See you all soon.
