And for those not on Facebook...

After months of waiting, it is now less than a week to go before the Irish Open tees off on Saturday 10th February on the Aztec Course at Rainforest Adventure Golf in Dublin. Players from across Europe will be taking on the cream of Irish Minigolfers in what promises to be another fantastic event at the complex.

As well as the overall Irish Open Champion being crowned for 2018 (which all players are eligible for) there is also the important matter of the Irish National Championship being contested over the weekend with exclusive ring-fenced prize money which is open to all the Irish players only and will be awarded to the player with the lowest cumulative score at the end of the competition. As well as the National Championship, all Irish players are eligible for the overall title (and the additional prize money if they finish in the top three places overall).

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Play will commence on Saturday 10th February at 10.00am (a rolling start with groups of two or three players, all starting at hole 1, going out at 5 minute intervals) with all players playing 5 rounds on Saturday. Once the tournament has started, there will be no practice permitted on the Aztec Course until the final group have finished their 5th round. Each player will have one practice shot at the start of each round.

The estimated finish time for the final group of the 5th round on Saturday is 5.00pm.

Sunday will consist of 3 further rounds for all players, with play starting no later than 9.00am (the start time will be confirmed before the weekend event tees off) to decide the winner. The estimated finish time (including presentations) on Sunday is 2.30pm

Any play offs across the weekend will take place as sudden death from Hole 1.

The prize fund for the weekend is as follows;

• 1st place overall: €750 and the Irish Open trophy
• 2nd place overall: €325
• 3rd place overall: €125

There will also be additional prizes for the top Players in the Irish National Championship as follows:

• 1st place Irish Player: €350
• 2nd place Irish Player: €200
• 3rd place Irish Player: €100
• 4th place Irish Player: €50
• 5th place Irish Player: €30
• 6th place Irish Player: €30

The tournament is being run with a rolling start enabling players to watch other players throughout the day (there will always be people out on the course!) and offers a unique insight into the challenges that the course provides. Players remain in their groups throughout the 5 rounds on Saturday (alternating the playing order).

Results from the Irish Open, will be live on the World Wide Web from Saturday morning at http://kentminigolfclub.co.uk/2018IO/result.htm (with thanks to the Kent Minigolf Club for hosting the results via their domain ensuring the results are available Worldwide!!). The link will show the registered players prior to the competition teeing of on the Saturday.

Players must ensure that they report to the Officials post at the course no later than 15 minutes before their scheduled tee-off time (a breakdown of all the round timings will be published on Friday 9th February at the course and also online).

Each subsequent round will tee off approx 30 minutes after the end of your previous round enabling players to take a break, review their scores or watch some of the action on the course between each round. There will be a slightly longer break between rounds 3 & 4 on Saturday so players can again get some refreshments as they reflect on their performance so far! We are expecting the final group to finish their final round of the day around 5.00pm.

The groups will be reordered on Sunday to reflect leaderboard order, with the leaders going out in the final group for round 6 onwards. The groups will again be re-ordered for the final round of the weekend.

The Tournament Director for the weekend will be Sean Homer, an experienced international tournament organiser and he will be on hand at the course during the official practice sessions to answer any questions that players may have regarding the competition. The Tee off areas for the competition will be in place on Thursday morning along with details of any course specific rulings.

COURSE DETAILS

The course is open from 10am until 11pm each day and are offering free practice for all Irish Open competitors from Monday 5th February (players just need to give their name and provide ID at the counter). Players need to ensure that they do not hold up any of the public when practicing as the course will be open to the public. The course will be closed to the public for the weekend and also for the practice session between 10am and 3pm on Friday 9th.
