2016 British Matchplay Championship round one draw confirmed!

Thirty two players to face off across sixteen top class matches

The draw for the 2016 British Matchplay Championship took place on Saturday 27th February and produced some exciting match ups for the first round.

The complete draw is as follows:

·  Andy Wilde (SWMGC) v Marion Homer (KMGC)

·  Marc Chapman (KMGC) v Kate Haynes (KMGC)

·  Seth Thomas (MMGC) v Will Donnelly (MMGC)

·  Paul Johnson (KMGC) v Martin Greenhead (KMGC)

·  Michael Smith (MMGC) v Helen Dodd (KMGC)

·  Keith Kellard (CEMGC) v Sean Homer (KMGC)

·  Chris Smith (MMGC) v David Hartley (PHCGC)

·  Dean Cripps-Humphrey (KMGC) v Dave Donnelly (KMGC)

·  Dave Gomm (PHCGC) v Tiger Pragnell (MMGC)

·  John McIver (PHCGC) v Chris Wood (CEMGC)

·  Matt Dodd (KMGC) v Tony Kelly (KMGC)

·  Derek Bentall (SWMGC) v Ed Haynes (KMGC)

·  Paul Preston (SWMGC) v Steve Lovell (SWMGC)

·   Adrian Amey (CEMGC) v Nuno Cunha (VGMGC)

·   Adam Kelly (KMGC) v Owen Johnson (KMGC)

·   Matt Bray (CEMGC) v Mark Wood (CEMGC)

The players will be able to decide between them where and when the tie is to be played (this can be at any course) and players are encouraged to take photos and video footage where possible to highlight their own matches (along with announcing the date and venue of the tie in advance to give spectators the chance to attend!).

There are cut off dates for matches in each round to be played (see below) and if players have not played the match by the deadline then the tie will go to a 'pools panel' who will look at how many official BMGA events each player has attended in the timeframe. If one player has attended more then they will be awarded the tie. If however this is not decisive then both players will be disqualified from the championship and one of the losers from a completed match will progress to the next round in their place!

The primary reason for this rule is quite simply to ensure that the matches are played out to a conclusion

The deadlines for matches are as follows:

* Round 1 - by end of day 24th April
* Round 2 - by end of day 12th June
* Quarter finals - by end of day 31st August
* Semi Finals - by end of day 17th September

The final and third place play off will be contested over the weekend of the British Open.

Each match will be contested over 18 holes (or more if the match is tied at this point). Players will toss a coin to decide who goes first at the first hole. Players will then alternate teeing off (one player will always tee off first on odd numbers, the other on evens). Each player plays out the hole to completion before the second player tees off (one ball in play). If a match is tied after 18 holes then the match reverts to sudden death from hole 1 (players again toss a coin to decide who plays first at the first sudden death hole). Players continue to alternate tee off until the match is decided.

After the match has been completed, the result (and any photos, etc) need to be emailed to chairman@minigolf.org.uk

Results from each match will then be published on the BMGA website.

Each subsequent round will see a draw take place to confirm the next wave of fixtures.

Whichever one you feel you can get the most aces and are the most comfortable on.

Perhaps just see how you get on at the PHCGO (presuming we go of course!!) and then challenge Andy on the one you feel you are playing the best on the day.

Unleash the beast!!!!

Does anyone know where Kate Haynes is based? Need to arrange the fixture as I'll not be at any tournaments before the Round 1 deadline.

They did live in Margate but I think they're Medway now so BW could be an option? Kate has played at Sidcup too.

If Paul J reads the forum, hoping to play at Strokes on the Saturday of the club champs, for no other reason than that is about the only time I'll be lifting a putter before the world crazies.

Paul's up for the Saturday (him and Owen will be there all day). Owen will take on Adam at Strokes - the tie of the round - or maybe at Splashpoint if they go.

And you can all rest easy as I've found the fence...

Matt, happy to play at Splash Point. Are you around on Saturday? Would prefer to play Sat afternoon as will be making a quick getaway after the Masters on Sun so that Adam can get back to Lincoln.
