The 2014 Kent Invitational Tournament will tee off on Sunday with the Cup Cake Classic at Hastings, culminating with the crowning of the KIT champion on Saturday 8th November in Sidcup.
The 2 phase structure remains and Phase 2, the KIT final, remains exactly the same as the last 2 years (2 rounds on Lost Island Explorers added to the aggregate score from phase 1 - lowest total wins the KIT).
As last years KIT phase 1 proved to give everyone a chance to lift the trophy, this year sees the format remain virtually the same, but with a slight twist to reward the players that attend the events that count towards the 2014 KIT.
There are once again 7 official rounds for the 2013 KIT with all players starting with a strokeplay score of 40 for each event. Players that take part in an event will automatically get their score lowered to 36 and as per previous years players take their lowest round score (if below 36) from each of the 7 events to count as their round total.
So the 7 rounds are the same as for 2013:
ROUND 1 - Cup Cake Classic - Hastings Seafront Crazy 05/01/14
ROUND 2 - British Masters – tbc 13/04/14
ROUND 3 - Easter Eggstravaganza - Bluewater Smugglers 20/04/14
ROUND 4 - British Championship - tbc
ROUND 5 - Megabowl 5 - tbc
ROUND 6 - British Open – tbc
ROUND 7 - World Crazy Golf Championship - Hastings
This season will also see an additional trophy awarded alongside the KIT trophy – drum roll please….
· The all new KIM trophy (the Kent Invitational Matchplay trophy – please note this is not the proposed KMGC Matchplay competition).
Each of the 7 KIT events will see KMGC players ‘virtually’ paired up in matchplay ties using the strokeplay results as the Matchplay scores. Matches will be won by the player that wins the most holes from the 18 designated as the KIM ‘rounds’.
The pairs will be drawn randomly before each event and the specific holes/rounds will be identified before the event tees off. For a two day event there will be matches for each day and players will not be matched up more than once across the season (you may not play all players but that's the luck or not of the draw). For this weekends Cup Cake Classic for example the 18 holes for the matches will comprise of the even holes on the Crazy and the odd holes on the Pirate (we may do the draw on Saturday live online hence the need to know who's playing beforehand!)..
The KIM league table will run in tandem with the KIT table - a win sees the player get 5 points, with 3 points for a drawn match (or a bye where we have an odd number of players taking part) and 1 point for a defeat. There will also be hole difference in the table based on the number of holes won in each match.
The top 2 in the table after round 7 will then go head to head at the KIT final day in an 18 hole Matchplay shootout for the KIM trophy (after the KIT has been completed).
Although there are no longer any ranking points available for the event, the KIT has been a key part of the KMGC since our inception in 2006 so it will continue. After all, it's a pretty epic roll of honour for those fortunate (or dare we say it good enough!) to lift the marvelously mini trophy.
