Are you sitting comfortably?
Then I shall begin...
The 2013 Kent Invitational Tournament (phase 1) is nearing completion After another tense and exciting season the 2013 event is even closer and more competitive than ever leading to the crowning of the best of the best - the KIT champion on Saturday 9th November.
The 2 phase structure remains and Phase 2, the KIT final, remains exactly the same as the last 2 years (2 rounds on Lost Island Explorers added to the aggregate score from phase 1 - lowest total wins the KIT).
The difference for 2013 is again all about phase 1.
There are once again 7 official rounds for the 2013 KIT with all players starting with a strokeplay score of 36 for each of the rounds (14 lower than in 2011 and actually 4 lower that last year, to keep the overall phase 2 starting scores as close as possible).
Each of the seven rounds has been based around a formal competition (some KMGC specific and others on the full BMGA tour). Players take their lowest round score from each of the 7 events to count as their round total.
So the 7 rounds are as follows:
ROUND 1 - Cup Cake Classic - Hastings Seafront Crazy
ROUND 2 - Easter Eggstravaganza - Bluewater Smugglers.
ROUND 3 - British Masters - Splash Point Mini Golf
ROUND 4 - British Championship - Wroxham Barns
ROUND 5 - Megabowl 5 - Strokes
ROUND 6 - British Open - Strokes
ROUND 7 - World Crazy Golf Championship - Hastings
So as we approach the end of the KIT season, time for an update on the KIT to date.
Although there are no longer any ranking points available for the event, the KIT has been a key part of the KMGC since our inception in 2006 so it will continue.
After all, it's a pretty epic roll of honour for those fortunate (or dare we say it good enough!) to lift the marvellously mini trophy.
2006 - Sean Homer
2007 - Ruth Bullin
2008 - Rocky Bullin
2009 - Marc Chapman
2010 - Michael Smith (with a touch of last hole controversy!!)
2011 - Michael Smith
2012 - Sean Homer
The KIT will be awarded as always the day before the Kent Open, based on the seasons performance in the 7 rounds (and the 2 round final). There will be a small entry fee for the KIT final on the Saturday of £5 (in addition to the day rate payable to the course). This helps keep the KMGC juggernaut rolling (Websites don't come free you know) and this reasonable fee really does help keep things going at KMGC HQ (particularly given the fact that the voluntary 10% winnings donations to KMGC funds seemed to dry up the year our club players had a very financially successful WCGCs... ).
Anyway, moving on.
And lest we forget that the winner of the KIT has NEVER won the Kent Open the following day (with only one winner in our history ever having won both titles in their career... I thank you).
And here it is, with one event to go (the WCGC's), the updated 2013 KIT table:
