With 3 weeks to go until the biggest event on the tour so far this year, it's time to sort out an open practice day to hone those skills on the Pirate course.

Date: Sunday 2 June

Time: all day!

Format: free practice up to 10.30am then double rounds on Pirate course, 30 mins free practice, then double rounds. Repeat across day. Scores will be logged via Bangolf and full tournament rules (inc marked out tee-off areas in place) will be in play.

Cost: standard BMGA day rate £10

The idea will be to share best lines/balls, etc to help preparation when the GBR teams and players take on the Germans and the Swedes across the WAGM weekend. Bangolf link will be online to help with some post practice review of the scores/key holes.

The official practice days take place on Thurs and Friday before the WAGM and with this session and no doubt a few more before the 15th I am sure we will all be ready to take the course apart come the WAGM.

If you can let me know via this thread if you will be attending and I can sort out scorecards, etc in advance.

BREAKING NEWS: TK MAx wins the Fake WAGM by 1 shot from Freebird.

http://www.kentminigolfclub.co.uk/2013WAGMPS1/result.htm

A great (albeit rather crowded day!) at the seafront and some excellent scores as we move within 2 weeks of the WAGM.

Thorougly enjoyed the format, great to get to play and watch everyone elses lines over the course of the 8 rounds and I hope it was a useful to everyone else.

As I mentioned before we parted company this evening, if anyone's planning on going down to the course over the duration of this/next week then drop us a line on this thread so people can meet up if they are free.

I may well be going down on Wednesday this week to have a few rounds with Dave Gomm and Ted otherwise it will be Thursday & Friday next week when the Bird will be back on the Pirate course.

VTK!!

VGB!!!

Useful half day down at the course today with Ted and Dave Gomm.

Updated scores for the three of us now added into last weekends scores:

That's it for me until next week now... may go down on Tuesday for half a day otherwise will be there from Thursday onwards (the Swedish team are arriving late on Wednesday so will be at the course bright and early as well!!)

Any significant shot changes/new discoveries Sean?

Me and James will be there on Sunday from about 9...

Alex- if you're going to be there could you bring your extensive sale range of balls? I'm sure they'll be more than happy to look after them in the hut so you don't get robbed and fiddled and diddled by any passers by...

Main points from today from my perspective...

Hole 1 - Changed my tee-off point to the left edge of the matt, playing across the line of the hole. Wind picked up later in the afternoon and it seriously affected the pace needed. klicker shot not moving hardly at all right to left, rubber minigolf balls swinging a lot R 2 L.

Hole 4 - strange one today. Line and ball that worked at the weekend just not doing it today. Pace seemed to be very slow. One to work on me thinks.

Hole 11 - still very inconsistent but it does appear that the golf ball is still the only ball that drops, although probably dropping only 1 in 4.

Hole 15 - Klicker or Golf ball working well initially but in the last 2 rounds (player between approx 2pm and 3pm) they didn't drop but ran past the hole (I was using Klicker, Ted the GB). I noticed it was a bit like this on Sunday - not sure if it's the wind picking up, the heat or just one of those things...

Hole 18 - have a lovely Pinky Diver line working on the hole - the dead weight shot favoured by others was sticking on the hill more often than not.

Other than that just a case of refining the existing lines/ball choice.

We both played pretty well, averages in the low 30s, which will hopefully shift into the 20s by the weekend with a little bit more practice. Me and James both had a 27 at one point (James aced all of the first 5!) and Ted shot a 28 so all looking promising.

Major points regarding shot/ball selections...

4- 3d846 was working very well (could be used as a team ball)
6- Bloody frustrating, no ball/spot on the back wall seems to react consistently (will keep searching)
8- BoF Martin Stockle WAGM2012 working brilliantly for single rebound shot (will probably need to purchase another one though as James is also using it on 14)
14- James is very happy with his line using the Stockle BoF but I'm not convinced it's anything more than hit and hope (willing to be proved wrong though!)
15- Golf ball missed only one time all day (must have played it over 50 times)
16- Golf ball seems to get much better bounce off the rock than any minigolf balls.

I should be there on Thursday from about 3pm and all of Friday.

Had a few rounds this lunchtime with Alex, in the drizzle and rain. Quite unpleasant conditions and hopefully wont be repeated for the WAGM (although we may have a damp course on Sunday morning following some overnight rain).

Only things of note:

Hole 4 - found that a golf ball works well and is unaffected by temperature/water.

Hole 6 - Funsports 4 proving a reliable rebound today in the damper conditions.

Hole 8 - have found the double rebound off the left and rear with a pinky diver works well.... until it rains and then the first rebound fails to have the 'ping' required to get the angle for the second rebound.

Hole 10 - Funsport 4 working really well in the damp conditions rather than a Klicker (must be good for me to recommend over a Klicker!)

Hole 11 - Golf ball working well today (for me) and had the first high speed ace in round 3 (flew out like a rocket but straight at the hole... which was nice).

Hole 18 - having a great time with the pinky diver shot...

Oh and the Germans have all arrived!!! Just a shame the weather was shit and by all acocunts will continue to be tomorrow.

Scorewise across the 3 rounds for me - 31, 30, 28 (all clean), Alex dropping a few shots but matched me in the round of 30 which bodes well for GBR 4!

UPDATE:

Due to the lack of available WMF Golf Balls for the participants of this years WAGM, coupled with the fact that there are not any currently in stock to buy, I have just agreed with Pasi that for this event standard golf balls are acceptable (but only dimpled GB's not smooth).

A formal email will be sent to all participants later today.

I'd already been thinking that fs4 might be good on 10 so that's good news!
On 18, are you getting aces regularly or just having gimme 2s? And has it ever bounced out? I might get you to teach me the shot on Thursday...

No bounce outs to date, probably aceing it 1 in 4 at moment with other 3 usually within about 6 inches of the hole. A bit of focussed practice to nail the line and I would like to think I will push the ace stats up. Used to play the dead weight shot but given it's risk and the far from guarantee of an ace have given up on that one!!

even without pushing the aces up that's phenomenal returns for that lane, can't see anyone beating 1.75 as an average... and if you know you've always got a tap in 2 it's a really comfortable way to end the round. The way I'm playing it at the moment I find it the most nervy lane on the course by miles, even without the added pressure that might be riding on it in the final round or two
