Saturday 18th August sees the first event of a weekend double header as the BMGA and Adventure Experience team up to host the 2012 Pirate Cove Smugglers Cup, taking place between 10am and 4pm at the Smugglers Course at Pirate Cove, Bluewater Park.

Entry is just £5 per round per person and in a first for the BMGA, to encourage new players, the event is open to the general public and non BMGA tour pros only (whilst there will be no BMGA Tour Pro’s taking part in the Saturday event, BMGA referees and stewards will be on hand at the course to ensure the event runs smoothly and to assist with the scoring/rules where necessary).

Full details of the event can be found at http://www.minigolf.org.uk/joomla/index.php?option=com_eventlist&view=details&id=92&Itemid=56

THE PIRATE COVE OPEN

Play will tee off from 10am with the course open from 9am for final practice.

The course continues to offer their ongoing practice day rate of £10 for card carrying BMGA tour pros. Further details of this event can be found at http://www.minigolf.org.uk/joomla/index.php?option=com_eventlist&view=details&id=91&Itemid=56.

A brilliant and unique event today with 60 rounds of minigolf played by over 50 players!!

Results at http://www.bmga.co.uk/PIRATECOVESMUGGLERSCUP/result.htm

A MASSIVE thanks to Seth, Adam, Nick, Tony, Marion and Marc for all of their hard work in marhsalling the event and making it such a success (and boy was it hot out there today!!).

Tomorrow sees the Pirate Cove Open taking place from 10am and the results will be live at http://www.bmga.co.uk/2012PIRATECOVEOPEN/result.htm

And an interesting aside saw 5 tour pros take to the greens at the end of the event to see how we would all get on with a course ball and course putter and no practice (other than a practice shot at hole 1).

And the results were as follows:

Seth - 46
Tony - 41
Nick - 39
Adam - 36
Sean - 34

Roll on tomorrow and another hot one!!!

A bit more 'official' detail on the weekends events:

The British Minigolf Association and Pirate Cove Adventure Golf at Bluewater Park organise two Minigolf tournaments as part of the ‘Join In Local Sport’ weekend.

The British Minigolf Association and Pirate Cove Adventure Golf at Bluewater Park teamed-up to host a two-days of Minigolf action on the 18th and 19th August as part of the UK-wide ‘Join In Local Sport’ weekend. Two tournaments took place with a total of 66 players competing in the competitions held on the 18-hole Smugglers Adventure Golf course.

On Saturday 18th August 52 players competed in the first-ever Pirate Cove Smugglers Cup competition. The contest was open to players of all ages and abilities and was split into adult and under-16 categories. A total of 52 players completed 60 rounds of Minigolf during the day. Joint winners of the adult contest were Philip Exall and Lee Edwards having both scored rounds of 39(+3). Sam Conroy and Richard Payne tied in third-place with a best score of 41(+5). In the under-16-year olds division twenty players competed and first-place went to Alex Exall with a score of 38(+2). Connor Gill was runner-up with a score of 44(+8 ). Third-place went to George Edwards with a score of 45(+9).

On Sunday 19th the three-round Pirate Cove Open Minigolf tournament saw the top players from Saturday’s competition take on the BMGA Tour Pro players in an Open contest. 17-players took part in the event. Oxford’s Michael Smith, a member of the Kent Minigolf Club, defeated teammate Sean Homer at the sixth extra-hole of a sudden-death play-off to win the title. Both players had finished regulation play on a score of 97(-11). Adam Kelly of the KMGC was third. Seth Thomas of the Cambridgeshire Mini Golf Club finished in fourth-place. In the novice player category Harley Edwards won the top novice prize finishing in tenth place overall. Pirate Cove Smugglers Cup champion Lee Edwards was the novice player runner-up and finished 11th overall. Bulent Hossein finished the novice contest in third-place and 12th overall. During the Pirate Cove Open Sean Homer beat his own previous course record of 31(-5) to set a new BMGA course record of 30(-6) in round two. Seth Thomas equalled the record in his final round.

Sean Homer, Chairman of the BMGA said “The BMGA was delighted to return to the Pirate Cove course in Bluewater Park to be a part of the Pirate Cove Adventure Park minigolf competitions. It was a great event on Saturday 18th August and I am sure we saw some stars of the future Putting their way around the excellent Smugglers course. We were also really pleased to be able to be part of the ‘Join-In Local Sport’ campaign and encourage more people to get involved in the exciting and fun sport of Minigolf. Above all, the weekend was great fun and with the public-only event on Saturday we saw a debut champion crowned!”

Another fun report. I enjoyed the weekend, even though I wiped myself out through my own stupidity on the Saturday. It was nice to finally have a course record round, having not been close ever since I blew my chance of a course record in Liverpool ages ago, ruddy cups! It was even nicer that it came at a course that I find impossible.
Despite several ice baths, my face is still peeling off!
Portugal should be good, hopefully when I come back I will be able to put into practise what I've learnt by coming in the top 4 in the Midlands Open.

Predictions for the Midlands Open.

1. Chris Harding -11
2. Michael Smith -9
3. James Rutherford/Seth Thomas/Sean Homer/Marc Chapman -8 (4 way play off, Seth and Sean ace hole 1, Marc takes a 2, James a 3, Seth and Sean proceed to hole 2, where they both take 3's before Sean wins with an ace on hole 3, Seth having managed to hit another 3)

See, some proper predictions at last! Smile

Hmm, I've dotted my clicker with 50 shades of grey to spice up my minigolf, I wonder if that will have any bearing. Not that it will be any match for the DREADED (insert colour here) CLICKER.
Chris Harding better watch out, it sounds like someone's taken a contract out on him. Very Happy

It's the only way to stop him! With the possible exception of preventing him eating his beloved bananas!
