Sean, is there a lower rate for juniors or is it the same entry fee for all? Also if there were quite a few could you run the best round over the 3 rounds comp?

I'm trying to see how many of my Marlowe kids would like to take part by inviting them to the KIT day the week before.

It's the same entry fee for all - if we get a strong junior turnout then we could adapt a junior prize in the same way that we did at the KO a couple of years ago (i.e. best round out of 3). I would probably limit this to novice juniors but that would work well from the locals point of view.

If everybody could find one person, friend or family, to enter this event, we could max out the entry easily (and up the prize money too as a bonus!) I've got my 3-4 friends to enter again like last year at New Malden!

Congratulations to Marc Chapman for winning the 2011 British Masters by 1 shot from the 2010 Champion, and Kent Minigolf Club Teamate, Andy Exall. Adam Kelly took third place making it an all Kent clean sweep at the top of the leaderboard.

Seth Thomas took the Category 2 top prize, with Fellow Green Minigolf Club member Chris Smith taking 2nd place and Freddie Blackburn-Shaw taking the 3rd place.

Matthew Humphrey won the novice prize with Alan Mclaughlin 2nd and Paul Tatterton 3rd.

Brad Shepherd won the Aces Champion Prize following a sudden death play-off win over Sean Homer.

Thanks to everyone who took part, and to Matt, Brian And Frankie Wood for their hospitality over the weekend at Strokes. Thanks also to Marion Homer and Emily Gottfried for helping to run the event on Sunday.

I was unfortunate to hit the cement on 15 & your tee shot on 17 was VERY fortunate, but that's how it goes.
Well done for a great round too Adam, 3 under after four holes had me looking over my shoulder, you were unlucky not to ace more later in the round & threaten the CR. Good putter+reverse grip=big improvement, watch out everyone!

What a battle that was. Well played Marc, Andy and Adam for that masterclass:



Some incredible stats that really stand out:

Marc -3 on holes 7, 8 and 11 without dropping a shot

Adam level par on those 3 holes without dropping a shot

Adam only dropping 3 shots. That’s 2 tournaments running he’s dropped fewer shots than anyone!



I’d really like to congratulate Marc on a great victory. He has played really well for at least 18 months now and his performances and results from the Midland Open last year in this calendar 12 month period are awesome. He’s had a lot of very close calls in that time and this is a richly deserved win.



Well played to Andy too. We all expected to him to be up there because of his great past record at strokes but for him to play so well after 1 hour of practice on Sunday, having not played the course about 16 months is incredible.



But for all us over 18s at KMGC, we have a big challenge ahead of ourselves. If we do not keep improving then Adam is going to not just get ahead of us but he’ll leave us behind. And no, that is not an exaggeration. The results he’s getting are fantastic but it’s more the way he’s improved his technique, overhauled big parts of his game and the composure he has showed in the two final rounds at Liverpool and Margate that has been great to see. He’s always had the skill. But minigolf is so much about the mental game and nerve as much as skill and technique, at least in competition (which is great for me otherwise I wouldn’t make the top 10) and he’s so strong in that department now. Lots of titles will come soon.



And very well played Marion on rounds 2 and 3 at Strokes and the brilliant play at Hither Green.



I would also like to congratulate Clockwork Orange or should that be Clockwork Red after the sunburn on a great performance and his first BMGA top 5 finish, though I’m sure beating James for The Green bragging rights is more important for him. Well done Seth.



Personally, Strokes was everything I could have imagined and more. I’m glad I liked it as much as I was hoping for. I can see why you all love it so much. I always knew it would take a long to master but it was even harder than I thought. It ruthlessly exposed the flaws in my game that I have been able to escape on every course apart from Hither Green and The Mini at Hastings. But I’ve learned a huge amount and I’m sure I’ll be a much better player both next time in Strokes and for all the big events coming up.



An all KMGC top 5. It cannot get better than that. Apart from beating PH twice at the club championship!

It's great to see the club delivering such strong results again - both in terms of individual performances as well as the spirit, respect and support everyone shows each other - from tiny seeds giant oaks grow (or something similar!) and the KMGC stands strong in the UK minigolfing fraternity as a sign of what you can achieve with the right club set up.

It was great to be back at Strokes again - it's too good a course to not have on the tour - and I would like to think that we will be back there again (both with the BMGA and the KMGC) in the future. I think they have missed us perhaps even more than we have missed them.

It's a lot of work to pull together an event like the Masters as it is now, a significantly bigger and in my opinion better event than ever in it's history - and the final 3 ball certainly did the event justice given the standing it should have within the calendar. The name strikes a chord with players and public alike and I am sure there is a very unique 2 day Major within our grasp - I have some fairly radical ideas about this to really deliver a truly unique 2 day event but we will have to see if this is realistic goal given the time and effort it takes to pull together a one day event the size it currently is.

As much as it pleases me to see and hear the positive comments about the organisation and the way the event runs, it would be great to see it truly from the other side as just a player - lining up alongside my club mates - hopefully this will be possible next year as I retire from the official BMGA side of things and can concentrate on the club and just playing.

Ultimately as long as players enjoy the events then that is perhaps most important, and it has been great to read the comments from Alex on facebook about the welcome he received over the weekend from everyone at the event - he's so keen on joining the KMGC (in his own words why would he want to join anyone else when we have the best players, the best events and the most fun of all the clubs - he's a keen follower of our website and our facebook entries and all being well will be online on this forum shortly).

It would be great if we could pull together the Easter Eggstravaganza for this year and for it to be possible for all of the club and new members like Alex to take part. When and where is a good question - perhaps if people can give an idea of when they would be free over the Easter period then we can work out the where later!

Anyway, it was great to see everyone again over the weekend and look forward to the next event we are all lining up for as a formidable force (pardon the pun!) to be reckoned with.

I could do Easter Eggstravaganza this Saturday 16th April instead of watching the FA Cup semi-final.

We are planning a possible visit to Hastings on Monday 18th April so if enough people are going we could do it then.

Otherwise any time over the Easter weekend would be good -Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday all ok. AK has to be back for a saxophone lesson at 4.30pm on Easter Monday.

Venue-wise we have the obvious selection from Hastings, Bluewater, Sidcup or Hither Green. Not my decision to make! - 2009 Strokes / 2010 Hither Green / 2011 ?

Personally I quite like the idea of Easter Sunday - Bluewater would be good (otherwise might be tough to organise a KIT day before the BMC's). We will be holding the Megabowl at Sidcup and all being well, the Fake Crazies at Hastings so be nice to have a KIT day at a new venue (and it's all good practice).

Be worried KMGC, without the organising to worry about FB will be much tougher to beat next year for sure.
Playing & organising don't mix well, I know that from my days as the TWIT organiser & that was a rubbish comp!
Sean has done extremely well considering the effort he puts in to competitions on the organisation front, I'm 100% certain his minigolf will improve considerably without the distractions of non playing efforts on the days of competitions.
What a team KMGC have & it will improve too, something Planet Hastings dreamt of but never achieved.

Too much to say so I will not say it all.
Well done Marc having watched you at Hither Green two weeks ago; I almost disregarded my earlier prediction of you winning, following you telling me about your amazing 25 there. You may not be the people's champion but doing it in front of your friends would have made it all the more sweeter .

Andy you were also amazing. Any player who can pull out these types of performances with little or no practice, regardless of having played the course before are clearly something just a little bit special.

Adam, your play has been going from strength to strength and I doubt that's going to change. You'll win another title soon.

Sean though I'm sure you will be disappointed with your end result in Margate. That will evaporate as soon as you storm to victory in the Matchplay Championships. The only player who could beat you there is yourself.

Michael, for all of us who hadn't played it before it was going to be tough with just the one days practice. And playing whilst ill of course has a hugely detrimental effect on everyones play, as demonstrated by your dads final round.
You and Chris will be right at the forefront of all tournaments again very soon

Scott, Marion and Tony though none of you were at anywhere near your best that day. I have no doubt one of you three will win a tournament sooner rather than later.

And as for me, I was very pleased this being the first time any practice form had carried over. Maybe next time here with a bit more practice. And a bit less carelessness in regards to not getting badly sunburnt and losing a ball that I used on two of the holes leaving me clueless on the day; I imagine I probably had one of the worse records on The Omega Loop and The Bridge I expect I could hit three below par rounds or a 35 average. Though I still have lots of technical flaws with my game. I feel that in the last month or so I have dealt with the confidence or nerves problem that left me abject in the first couple of tournaments in the year. And I do finally believe there is enough game there to compete with the better players.

Also I am now officially a Midlands player as well as a Green player if only for Scrap Iron Cup purposes. Though if I can't stop with the adulation of the KMGC then I might be kicked out of both.

So much for not saying it all!

P.S How did I ace the Sharks Teeth 3 times I only got it about once in practice.

Aced the sharks teeth 3 times? I peppered the hole but sadly none dropped in!
As for technical flaws, we all have them except for Michael so don't worry about that, it's preparation, experience & practice that count & that will improve the more you compete, also the nerves will jangle less too!
