After emailing Nick to confirm that there are no big parties being held on the day, my preference is to hold the tournament on Saturday 15th January, probably with a 2pm start. Snow permitting of course. Wink
Is this a good date and time for people?
If not, then we can think about Sunday 16th or the weekend of the 29th/30th.

Some details about the tournament on Saturday.

SCORING SYSTEM

This is somewhere between the F1 championship and the SOR. For each of the four rounds, last place will score 2 points, second last 4 points and so on. The winner of each round will receive 1 bonus point.

If two or more positions are tied then the combined points will be added up and then divided by the number of players that are tied. For example, in a 10 person competition if places 9 and 10 are tied, 2 points for tenth and 4 points for ninth are added together then divided by 2, making 3 points each. The exception is if there is a tie for 1st place in the round in which case a play-off will decide who wins the round.

THE FORMAT

There are 4 different rounds, each testing different minigolf skills with specific rules for each round. Players will score points as outlined above. After 4 rounds, the player with the most points is the winner.

ROUND 1 – STRIKE THE ACE

Round 1 is all about repeating aces. Whether it is in practice or competition, most of us have had fun seeing how many aces in a row we can get at a certain hole. Here is the chance to do it under pressure.

The rules are simple. Players will hit their first shot at a hole as normal. If the shot misses, the player picks the ball up and scores a 0. If the player aces the hole then they play the hole again in the same manner. In other words, you keep playing the hole until you miss the ace. A little bit like ten-pin bowling. The number of aces you get in a row at a hole is the score that is written on the scorecard.

There are three exceptions – hole 14, hole 16 and hole 18. On these holes a player can score 3 aces in a row but no more.

At the end of the round, the number of aces is added up. Whoever scores the most aces is the winner.

ROUND 2 – A LUCKY PAIR

This is almost like a normal round of minigolf. But with 2 differences.

Each player is permitted to use only 2 balls for the round.

Each player can choose to play the course on either ‘easy’ or ‘hard’ settings. Those who choose to play on ‘easy’ will have 5 strokes added to their total.

The lowest score wins the round.

ROUND 3 – FIFTY/FIFTY

In this round, each player must choose 9 holes to play. Sounds simple but there is a twist.

Here is the Stroke Index from The Green Open. SI 1 was the most difficult. SI 18 was the easiest.

Hole 1 – 14

Hole 2 – 6

Hole 3 – 4

Hole 4 – 7

Hole 5 – 11

Hole 6 – 1

Hole 7 – 3

Hole 8 – 12

Hole 9 – 2

Hole 10 – 15

Hole 11 – 10

Hole 12 – 9

Hole 13 – 5

Hole 14 – 16

Hole 15 – 8

Hole 16 – 17

Hole 17 – 13

Hole 18 – 18

Each player must play:

3 holes with a stroke index between 1-6

3 holes with a stroke index between 7-12

3 holes with a stroke index between 13-18

Every score on a hole is multiplied by it’s stroke index. So if you score a 2 on hole 6 you will score a 2 and if you score a 4 on hole 4 then you will score 28 for that hole.

The 9 scores for each player are added together and the lowest score wins the round.

ROUND 4 – THE ULTIMATE TEST

This is one surprise I’ll leave for the day itself.

PRIZES

There will be some small prizes for the winner of each individual round. There are medals for the top 3 and a trophy for the champion.

ENTRY FEE

As originally planned, entry fee will be £5 with all money raised going to Children In Need.

TIMINGS

1:45 Rules/format/groups.

2:00 Round 1 begins.

Hopefully we’ll finish by about 5pm and then we can play some ‘normal’ rounds afterwards.

If you could please confirm whether you can make it on the forum or by a PM, that would be very helpful for knowing numbers and preparing scorecards.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I’d just like to thank you all for an incredible year last year. It is so much fun playing with you all. I can’t believe how many new friends I’ve made and I’m really excited about what we can all achieve this season, especially from April onwards.

See you Saturday. All the best.

At long last we see the format for the HIOK Masters and it looks like a cracker!!

Can't wait (and what delights await in the final round only time will tell!!).

Interestingly the Green have upgraded their website (some great work by James) and have highlighted the following:

HOLE ALTERATIONS

After some consideration some slight changes have been made to holes 16 & 18 at the course. The idea being to make the holes more competitive in tournament play and more fun for everyone else!
So pop down and see what you think.

I spoke to James about this a couple of weeks ago and it will be interesting to see what they've doen (a couple of gates on the 18th to make it a tougher ace shot I would imagine and perhaps a rounded edge at the end of the 16th to negate the obvious way to play for the ace).

Not sure if I will be there on Thursday but might be worth checking out before we tee off on Saturday!!!

The website address is http://www.wix.com/jwr20000/the-green-indoor-mini-golf - check it out - it looks great and has the names of the first 4 pairs entered into the Green Doubles hidden away in the news section.

Thanks to Michael for organising a great day, for devising some quirky and fun challenges and for bringing along all the prizes and cakes Smile

My squeegee will undoubtedly come in useful on the tour this year.

I left my putter behind and once again The Overtaker came to the rescue Embarassed

I'd like to thank you all for coming and for the kind comments. It was exhausting but great fun to do.
All I can say is Sean must be Superman in disguise. How he can flick the switch between organising and playing so well is beyond me. I found concentrating on minigolf very difficult and this was a tiny tournament of 13 players. His record last year, especially in the majors, Kent Open and British Matchplay and 2nd in the SOR is just incredible.
Just out of interest, what were your favourite and least favourite rounds? And was there anything that didn't work? Was it 1 round too long? I would love to host the tournament again but may tinker a little depending on feedback.
See you next weekend.

I think that possibly the stroke index round was a bit too complicated, but everything else was fantastic Very Happy It was a great break from the normal boring strokeplay tournaments Wink Thankyou very much for organising it and inviting us all.
